5 Types Of Content Bloggers Shouldn’t Blog in 2022

The blog can be a steady source of clients for a freelancer but here are 5 types of content one must avoid blogging.

1. News Updates

As a freelancer doing part-time blogging, you aren’t the going to be the first one who will be reporting news.

So if you aren’t breaking a news story, there is no point in sharing the exact same news story on your blog yet again. One can share views or opinions about a particular news breakout but just sharing the news as an update on a blog isn’t going to be of much value.

As an example, if your blog is about WordPress, there isn’t too much value being added on your blog if you report the release of a new version of WordPress but your views of anything new in the latest version can be a good read for your readers.

2. Too Much Self-Promotion

As a freelancer, your aim is to get clients from your blog but if your blog is all about self-promotion, it will not connect with the readers and ultimately will not fetch clients for you.

The aim of the blog should be to make things useful for your readers and then if someone wants to hire they have it as an option.

There is a silver lining between what you may call too much and what you may call an ok kind of self-promotion. If you think you are putting the call to action button of “hire me” too often in every article you are publishing, it may be time to rethink the strategy.

3. Fake Articles or Stories

Trust is the most important aspect of any business and blogging or freelancing is no different. Fake stories or fake articles doesn’t build the trust a reader needs when he is reading your blog.

Fake stories or fake articles or if the blog boosts achievements but if things don’t add up correctly from social media or otherwise, the blogger can easily lose the trust.

4. Social Media Style Updates

Blogging has come up with a great deal in the past decade or so. It isn’t about increasing the post count in the WordPress dashboard. Social media type updates don’t provide detail and aren’t of too much help either.

It is better to keep such updates on social media platforms only and have the blog for something more useful and helpful for the readers.

Seth Godin’s blog comes in as an example where he shares small articles. Note he shares small yet useful articles and not a social media type updates like where he has been or which restaurant he has been to recently.

5. Unrelated Topic or Content

Anything that you or your company normally doesn’t blog about shouldn’t be part of the blog just out of the blue. Focus on a niche of blogging and not on any topic you like exploring over a weekend.

So if you have a blog about programming, it doesn’t make sense to be sharing about the release of a new iPhone. Again I am not talking about the personal blogs but a freelancers blog who blogs to fetch clients. A personal blog can be an exception here.

Final Thoughts

I know this list is short and it is because there isn’t a lot you shouldn’t be blogging about. Finally here is the list of Types Of Content Developers Can Blog.
