Starting Your Freelancing SEO Services & Business

If you want to provide SEO services to clients, you not only need to learn SEO but able to demonstrate SEO expertise.

I have seen many SEO services providers consider themselves as SEO expert by being an active member of a few SEO forums. It is great to be doing that but it does not make you an SEO expert.

Learn SEO

No one will hire a newbie if the same quality of service is available at almost the same price by an expert and SEO is no different. With the global pool of talent, your price needs to be competitive but more importantly, you need to project yourself as an SEO expert.

SEO is an ever-learning process and so you should be up for it. Being active members of the SEO communities can definitely help but may not be enough to learn the complete SEO. You should read SEO books, take a professional SEO course and then remain an active member of the SEO communities.

Testify SEO Skills

You cannot consider an SEO expert just by knowing everything that is being discussed in forums. You have to apply your knowledge to polish your skills.

Create a WordPress blog (it only takes a few minutes) and apply your SEO skills to rank your blog better. This is how you actually learn the nitty-gritty of the process and understand the application aspect of what you know or what you have learned.

When approaching clients, you should be able to provide samples of work and your WordPress blog can be your biggest sample. With SEO it is very easy to verify, one search in Google and your SEO skills is verified.

Make a Business Plan

Creating a business plan will help you approach clients more professionally.

  • How will you find new clients?
  • How many clients you would like to add each year that you can retain for the longer term?
  • How can you help your clients grow their business with SEO?
  • What should be your target revenue at the end of your first 6 months to a year?

SEO is an ever-changing industry, which means it is not all about finding new clients but it is more about retaining existing clients for an elongated period of time to provide them with great services.
